Cooking with Gin: How to Pretend You’re Healthy During Quarantine

Hello and welcome to your new way of life – for now at least.

Last week, my employer had sent us to work from the comfort and safety of our homes due to the COVID-19 situation that has affected many lives. So without my commute, time to get ready and other factors, I have a bit more time on my hands.

Like many of you, I’ve decided to use all this extra time to better myself. And also like most you, free time didn’t exactly equal motivation. Or determination. Or execution. I wanted to show you all my week of “healthy” cooking from home. However, due to my forgetfulness of how the days went on, I don’t remember a lot of what happened when I made these meals (pretty sure my significant other made 90% of them). So please enjoy the first 3 days of the purge. I mean quarantine. Ugh, you know what I mean.

Day One

It was the first day of quarantine – I mean, self-isolation – I mean, social distancing. Safe to say, I was still able to somewhat keep my sanity for the duration of one day. But that’s not the point of this blog post today.

Today’s lunch/dinner was pizza. And yes, I am on the road to a healthier lifestyle, but today was a real treat because it was from A Little Pizza Heaven. God bless them during this difficult time. Now you might be thinking, “A treat on Day 1? Really?” and you would be right, but now isn’t the time to judge one another. We must all stand together in this difficult time.

Until next time, have a wonderful day.

Day Two

I can’t remember for the life of me what I did today. I worked a regular day in my home office (which I will show you guys in the coming weeks) and did some cleaning. I did, however, eat battered haddock fish and steamed veggies. I ate that with The Purge TV show playing in the background.

See you tomorrow!

Day 3

Today, we went a little crazy and had jalapeno cheddar smokies. THEY WERE DELICIOUS. And, once again, I was watching The Purge TV show during this meal. It’s become sort of a staple for dinner time, but my boyfriend and I are trying to finish the show (and it’s important to stick to your goals).

(I thought these were supposed to be healthy meals…)

Days 4-7

I wish I could tell you all that I kept up with this whole “healthy eating lifestyle”, but that isn’t the case. I went off the bandwagon long after I started this post. However, I can honestly say that my usual morning habits stayed the same. That included a cup of tea and a measured amount of steel-cut oats.

After the first week of staying at home. I’ve come to realize that I need to put way more effort into what I am cooking at home. Especially during a time such as this.
